Artist Biography

Dr. Chanel Beebe is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator whose work weaves together abstraction, symbolism, storytelling, and systems thinking. Her practice spans painting, photography, design, and participatory research—often blurring the lines between personal healing, community connection, and intellectual inquiry.

Rooted in Detroit and shaped by engineering, art, and social justice, Chanel creates work that is both deeply reflective and widely resonant. Through abstract painting and photo-based experimentation, she explores themes of identity, memory, power, and liberation. Her visual language often incorporates layered textures, handwritten text, and reclaimed materials, inviting viewers to slow down and feel the emotional and ancestral echoes in her work.

In addition to her art practice, Chanel is the founder of Beebe Arts LLC, a design firm focused on social and educational equity via consulting and design. Her exhibitions, workshops, and consulting projects center the lived experiences of Black communities, especially women and youth, and challenge dominant narratives through care-based design and collaborative imagination.

Her work has been shown in galleries, classrooms, community spaces, and publications across the country. Whether on canvas, in dialogue, or in curriculum, Chanel’s practice remains rooted in the belief that art is a tool for truth-telling, world-building, and freedom work.
