Artist Statement
“Reclaiming Our Space” is an abstract interpretation of The Huxtable Living room as an energetic homage to the metaphorical and tangible familial and communal spaces that African Americans have created. Though traumas, violence and isms often attempt to infiltrate our spaces, “Reclaiming Our Space” attempts to fortify our ability to heal by modeling what it means to take ownership of the spaces that have helped us grow.
